Wood Conservation Course

ICOMOS Georgia, in long-term cooperation with the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) and with the support of the Norwegian Embassy in Georgia, has developed and established a Wood Conservation Course. The course aims to contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development and the protection of cultural heritage in Georgia.

The Wood Conservation Course was developed and conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvren) on 4-9th November 2024. The course program is based on and utilizes ICCROM’s International Course on Wood Conservation Technology (ICWCT) curriculum and methodology. As part of the course, the participants completed an intensive cycle of condensed theoretical lectures based on the 6 modules of ICWCT, tailored to the local context. The majority of the course time was dedicated to practical work in a wood workshop. The participants practically restored a 19th-century Tbilisi townhouse entrance door.
